Join us on Friday 8 November at 7pm for an ‘In Conversation’ event with exhibiting artist Nil Yalter and art historian and member of Na Cailleacha Dr. Catherine Marshall.
Nil Yalter (born 1938, Cairo, Egypt) is a feminist artist, pioneer in the use of video art, who resides between Egypt, Turkey and France since 1965. Yalter, defined by the perspective of being a female immigrant, has generated an extensive body of work that orbits social aspects such as cultural identity, ethnicity, immigration and feminism and is characterized by its use of diverse media.
Catherine Marshall is an art historian, curator and editor. Senior Curator and founding Head of Collections at the Irish Museum of Modern Art from 1995 to 2007, she was seconded to The Arts Council and, later, the Royal Irish Academy. She has curated exhibitions in China, North America and Ireland. Currently Head of the Visual Arts Steering Committee for Bealtaine Festival, she sits on the boards of Common Ground, South Tipperary Arts Centre, KCAT and the Irish American Cultural Institute. She is also a founding editor of Comcol, the online journal of ICOM’s International Committee for Collection.
